Ok folks this is my blog for September but don’t expect too much as myself and Commanding Officer spent the whole month travelling through France and Spain. We took the Tunnel to France and drove down to Troyes, then Nimes before eventually arriving at a Center Parc in Estartit, Espania. We spent a fortnight there before moving down to spend a few days with our friends at their villa in Moraira on the Costa Blanca. After this, we travelled back up the coast to spend a few days in Tarragona before launching across country to see the bulls of Pamplona, the Rioja region of “Green Spain” and the Cantabrian Mountains before eventually boarding our ferry at Santander for the trip back to the UK.
Having stayed in many hotels across Europe what I did consider on this trip is I am beginning to think our policy on bathrooms and bonding etc in the UK is completely wrong. Nearly all continental bathrooms have socket for hairdryers etc and I am beginning to think “so, what is the problem?” I think the continental view is a mature one where if you are bloody stupid enough to jam your fingers in mains socket then so be it. After all, you may find a bottle of bleach in the bathroom but you don’t have to drink it. I think we should have instead made bathrooms earth-free zones so you can’t get caught across potentials (this could have been easily aided by the use of insulating couplers for 15 & 22mm copper pipe). We also could have had simple sockets supplied by isolating transformer.
Oh well that concludes my update for September. My first training session on my return to civvy street was in Teignmouth, so I’m composing this whilst having my dinner in a restaurant with a view of the Teign estuary as the u goes down. I suppose there are worse ways of earning a crust.
Got a busy month in October, even got an entire week at Whitehall. I also suppose I need to knuckle down and start planning that 18 Edition course.
Adios Amigos and Amigas.
